A watch is one of the rare devices that operate continuously around the clock. To ensure optimal functioning and long-life, an authorized Harry Winston after-sales service centre should carry out a complete movement overhaul every 3 to 5 years.

About mechanical movements:
The accuracy of a mechanical movement is affected by various factors such as Earth gravity, magnetism, barometric pressure, temperature's variation, and the positions of the wrist. The time rate may vary plus or minus one minute per week.
Our environment is increasingly subject to disturbances due to magnetic sources. This could, in some occasions, magnetize steel parts in the movement and more particularly the main spring.
Some parts are likely to adhere to one another and the watch could advance considerably or stop.
In this case an after-sales service centre authorized by Harry Winston must undertake a quick demagnetization intervention.
Avoid strong shock to the case which may result into serious damage to one or more movement components, in particular the balance spring and minute wheel.
Manual date change should be avoided between 8 pm and 3 am as it might deteriorate the mechanism.
When an automatic watch has stopped, it is necessary to wind up the movement (approximately 30 turns of the crown) before wearing the watch. A movement that starts with a low power reserve will not keep accurate time.
Given the complexity of certain mechanical movements, the time needed to overhaul and control them may take from four weeks to few months.
About Quartz movements:
The average life span of a battery is 1 to 4 years. A worn battery should not be left inside the watch, as there is a risk of its deterioration damaging the movement.
A quartz watch can be affected when it enters a strong magnetic field, however it should work normally again once it is no longer in the magnetic zone.
About Water resistance:
Most of Harry Winston timepieces are water resistant, but it is best to avoid direct contact with water. (The exceptions, of course, are our sports models water-resistant to 50m or more, with screwed-in crowns and metal or rubber straps.)
The water-resistance protects the movement from dust, moisture and oxidizing. The gaskets keep the watch water-resistant. However, as they are constantly exposed to several forms of outside aggressions (cosmetics, perspiration, temperature variations), the gaskets may deteriorate and the water-resistance of a watch may decrease with time.
It is strongly recommended to test the water-resistance of your watch every 12 months to 18 months.
Always ensure the crown (especially a screwed-in crown) is well fastened before entering the water or a humid environment.
Do not adjust the position of the crown or press on the push buttons to change the time, date or any other functions when the watch is immersed in water, as water may seep into the case.
Rinse in fresh water after contact with salty or chlorinated water.
If condensation appears in your watch, it should be controlled immediately by a Harry Winston authorized service centre as this may indicate a water-resistance problem.
About watch care:
Harry Winston timepieces are made with precious metals, and often set with gemstones. To protect their surface from scratches and damages it is recommended to handle them with care,
and avoid contact with hard/abrasive surfaces or other gemstones.
Always lay the watch on the back or on the crown side.
To preserve the look of your watch and its metal bracelet, it is recommended to clean it with a soft brush (e.g. toothbrush), dipped in lukewarm water with a bit of soap.
After this operation, carefully rinse your watch with fresh water and wipe with a soft cloth.
If the watch is worn regularly, it should be cleaned every two months. Before any cleaning, ensure the crown of your watch is correctly in place
(pushed in or screwed in depending on the model).
To resize a metal bracelet, your watch should be given to an authorized service center as this operation requires particular attention to avoid damages and
ensure the correct fastening of the bracelet screws.
We recommend entrusting the changing of the leather or rubber strap to an authorized reseller or Harry Winston salon.
They will use straps made especially for your model, which gives the final touch to the quality of Harry Winston watches.
